The acting committee called the E.G.M. to resolve the issues currently facing the branch.
The current problems in relation to communication, commitment, membership and finances was outlined.
Solutions to these issues were suggested.
An intensive effort to be made to update the branch membership database with the latest e-mail addresses and telephone numbers of all members.
The importance of having an up to date website for members and others to access was emphasised.
A sub-group was formed to take a look at re-designing the website.
The financial position of the branch was discussed and the situation regarding the shares owned by the branch clarified.
The shares were donated to the 107B barge project group at the AGM, on condition that the branch would have access to and use of the barge for branch events.
Kildare branch has run many successful events in the last two years but none of these made a profit or covered costs.
It was suggested that the branch make a concerted effort to get more sponsorship and the local communities involved to see if this financial situation might be improved.
A new Committee was elected for 2009.
The members expressed their thanks to the former committee, especially to Niall Galway & Geraldine and Cecil Wilson.
The newly elected committee agreed to serve until the 2009 AGM.
The following objectives for this year in particular, were put forward:
1. To keep boats moving through the waterways and locks on the Kildare waterways
2. To support the upcoming Robertstown Canal Festival this August Holiday weekend
3. To adopt the reopening of the Corbally Branch line to navigation as a project focus
4. To investigate the feasibility of re-commissioning the Dry Dock near Sallins
5. To invite the H.B.A. to an event in the Kildare area
